I am going to buy a car from a private party do I need insurance to drive it home the day I buy it?

I want to drive it home after I buy it but I dont know if I’ll need insurance as soon as I buy it (the day of purchase) but I will get insurance on it a few days after I purchase it. Also how long do I have to send the title in for correction after they sign it over? Thanks for your response(s)

P.S. I live in IL so I dont know if the laws vary from state to state
